West Lea School is getting refurbished

West Lea School’s campus in Haselbury Road is getting refurbished. The development aims to modernise existing facilities and build a new teaching block, which will provide spaces for 160 pupils increasing capacity by over 50%.

West Lea is a specialist school for students aged 4 to 18 years old. The new site facilities will ensure that pupils experience a learning environment that equips them with the skills they need to thrive in the twenty-first century. These include new specialist sensory rooms and excellent outdoor play facilities.

The first phase of construction work is due to start in the autumn and development plans include building a two storey teaching block,  newly defined pedestrian and vehicular access, car parking and a new entrance to the school.

The second phase will start once these initial works are complete and includes building a new single storey teaching block, a new larger dining hall, an extension to the existing gym, new play areas and outside seating areas. The existing buildings will be refurbished including new flooring and toilets. All works are expected to be completed by autumn 2020.

Sue Tripp, West Lea’s head teacher, said “We are delighted with the proposal of the new campus. The improvement of our facilities will ensure we continue to provide high quality specialised teaching for our pupils, enabling their talents to flourish.”
